Alarm Installation

National

If your business installs, repairs, or modifies alarm systems, you need a permit from the Police Authority (Polismyndigheten). This applies to all professional alarm installation work, including burglar alarms, fire alarms, and access control systems. Security companies (bevakningsföretag) authorized by Länsstyrelsen are exempt from this requirement.Both the permit holder and all employees working with alarm installation must be individually approved. The assessment covers criminal record checks and personal suitability. You must include a company registration certificate from Bolagsverket with your application. The Police Authority supervises alarm installation businesses and can revoke permits.

A security company (bevakningsföretag) must be authorized by the County Administrative Board (länsstyrelsen) to operate. A security company is a business that professionally guards properties, facilities, certain operations, public events, certain property during transport, or an individual person.To be authorized, the security operation must be expected to be conducted in a competent and judicious manner and in accordance with good practice within the industry. All personnel, including those who are not security guards (väktare), must be approved for employment. Those to be approved must be law-abiding, civically reliable, and otherwise suitable.

Anyone working as a security guard (väktare) in Sweden must be personally approved by the County Administrative Board (Länsstyrelsen). This applies to all guards employed at authorized security companies. The approval process checks that the applicant is law-abiding, civically reliable, and suitable for the role.Security guards may work in uniform or civilian clothes depending on the assignment. Guards performing store surveillance or event security often work without uniforms. The approval is tied to employment at a specific authorized security company.
