Real Estate Agent

To work as a real estate agent or conduct real estate agency operations in Sweden, registration with the Swedish Estate Agents Inspectorate (Fastighetsmäklarinspektionen, FMI) is required. Both individual agents and agency companies must be registered.

For registration as a real estate agent, you must meet requirements for education as well as integrity and suitability. An annual fee must be paid to remain registered. Agency companies must also meet requirements for integrity and suitability, which includes financial responsibility and that the company has not been involved in criminal activity. These requirements also apply to persons who own and operate the company. FMI supervises and can impose sanctions such as reminders, warnings, or revocation of registration for violations of the Real Estate Agents Act and good real estate practice.
