Service of Process Company
A service of process company (delgivningsföretag) delivers legal documents such as court summons, official notices, and other legal papers to individuals on behalf of courts and authorities. To operate this type of business, you need authorization from the County Administrative Board (Länsstyrelsen).
All personnel at the company must be individually approved, including the manager, board members, and substitutes. The assessment covers personal suitability and criminal background. Four regional County Administrative Boards handle authorization based on where the company's management is located. They also supervise authorized companies and can revoke authorization if requirements are no longer met.
Requirements
- Authorization: The company must be authorized to perform service of summons.
- Approved personnel: All personnel must be approved, regardless of duties. This also applies to the person managing the operation and members and deputies of the board.
- Geographical jurisdiction: The application is submitted to the county administrative board that handles matters for the county where the service of process company's management is seated.
Authorization Procedure
- Application: Submit application for authorization and approval of personnel to the relevant county administrative board.
- Geographical distribution: Stockholm County (for Stockholm, Uppsala, Södermanland, Gotland, Västmanland, Värmland, Örebro, Dalarna counties or abroad); Skåne County (for Kronoberg, Blekinge, Kalmar or Skåne counties); Västra Götaland County (for Halland, Jönköping, Västra Götaland or Östergötland counties); Norrbotten County (for Gävleborg, Västernorrland, Jämtland, Västerbotten or Norrbotten counties).
