Commercial Fishing License

Professional fishers and aquaculture operators in Germany need a commercial fishing license (Erwerbsfischereischein) to harvest fish, crabs, or other aquatic organisms for commercial purposes. The license is distinct from the recreational fishing license (Fischereischein) and is governed by each state's fisheries law. Requirements typically include completed vocational training as a fisher (Fischwirt) or equivalent fisheries science education.

You apply at the lower fisheries authority (untere Fischereibehörde) of your state, not at the local municipality. The license may be issued for life or for a limited period depending on the state. Commercial fishers and their assistants are generally exempt from needing separate fishing permits for their assigned fishing district. Some states also require proof of a valid fishing lease or fishing right for the specific waters.
