Register Facility for Terrestrial Animals and Breeding Material

Anyone who keeps animals on land or handles breeding material must register the facility where the animals or breeding materials are kept with the Swedish Board of Agriculture (Jordbruksverket). Registration is mandatory and aims to ensure traceability, animal health and disease control.

The Swedish Board of Agriculture charges an annual fee per facility. Registration covers all types of terrestrial animals such as cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, poultry and horses, as well as facilities handling breeding material such as semen, eggs and embryos.

Registration requirements

  • Who must register: Everyone who keeps terrestrial animals or handles breeding material.
  • Scope: Registration applies to facilities for cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, poultry, horses and other terrestrial animals as well as breeding material.

Registration procedure

  • Registration authority: Registration is done with the Swedish Board of Agriculture (Jordbruksverket).
  • E-service: Registration can be done via the Swedish Board of Agriculture's e-service for animals and breeding material.
  • Information: Information about the facility's address, animal species, number of animals and responsible person must be provided.
  • Updates: Changes in operations must be reported to the Swedish Board of Agriculture.
