Certified Function Inspector (Ventilation)

Mandatory ventilation inspection (OVK) must be performed regularly in most buildings in Sweden. The inspection must be carried out by a certified function inspector who verifies that the ventilation system functions correctly, delivers adequate airflow, and meets statutory requirements.

To become a certified function inspector, you need relevant technical education and professional experience. Certification is issued by accredited certification bodies and must be renewed periodically. The building owner is responsible for ensuring inspections occur at the required intervals, typically every 3 or 6 years depending on building type. Inspectors with qualifications from other EEA countries must have their education validated by Boverket before applying.

Requirements

  • Swedish education and qualifications: Contact a certification body if you have Swedish qualifications and education. A list of certification bodies is available on Boverket's website.
  • Foreign education (EEA): Foreign education and professional experience from another EEA country are assessed and validated by Boverket, which issues a decision on recognition of professional qualifications.
  • Language control: Boverket has the option to conduct language checks.

Certification Procedure

  • Step 1 (foreign qualifications): Submit application to Boverket if you have qualifications or education from another EEA country.
  • Step 2: After receiving Boverket's decision on recognition of professional qualifications, you can contact an appropriate certification body.
  • Certification body: The certification body assesses other conditions for certification.
