Inspection of Amusement Rides

If you operate amusement rides such as carousels, roller coasters, bumper cars, or water slides, each ride must be inspected and approved before use and at regular intervals thereafter. Inspections are carried out by bodies accredited by Swedac, and approval is valid for one year.

The requirement is set out in the Public Order Act (ordningslagen) and supervised by the Police Authority (Polismyndigheten). You are responsible for ensuring your rides are inspected and that any defects are corrected before the ride is used. If a ride does not offer adequate safety, the Police Authority can prohibit its use.

Requirements

  • Initial inspection: Every new or modified amusement ride must pass an inspection before use
  • Regular inspections: Rides must be inspected at intervals determined by the accredited inspection body
  • Documentation: You must keep records of all inspections, maintenance, and any incidents
  • Accredited inspector: Only Swedac-accredited inspection bodies may perform the inspections

Procedure

  • Contact: Contact a Swedac-accredited inspection body to schedule an inspection
  • Inspection: The inspector examines the ride for safety, structural integrity, and compliance with regulations (RPSFS 2012:15)
  • Approval: If the ride passes, you receive an inspection certificate allowing it to be used
  • Defects: If defects are found, they must be corrected before the ride can be used, and a re-inspection may be required
