Swimming Pool Facility

A swimming pool facility is a bathing facility intended for the public or used by many people. It can be pools, spas and tubs intended for bathing, both indoors and outdoors, and may be part of swimming halls, spa facilities and adventure pools.

The activity must be notified at least six weeks before it is planned to start to the environmental and health protection committee or equivalent in the municipality where the activity will be conducted. If you start the activity without notification, you risk an environmental sanction fee of 3,000 SEK as well as requirements for changes in, for example, water treatment.

Requirements and Self-Monitoring

  • Notification: At least six weeks before activity start to the municipality's environmental and health protection committee.
  • Self-monitoring: Procedures to handle environmental and health requirements according to the Environmental Code.
  • Investigation: Map how the environment and people's health are affected by the activity.
  • Knowledge: Stay updated on applicable rules and acquire necessary knowledge to prevent ill health.
  • Responsibility distribution: Clear distribution of responsibility for the activity.
  • Documentation: Procedures to monitor water quality and check equipment.

Notification Process

  • Deadline: No later than six weeks before activity start.
  • Recipient: The municipality's environmental and health protection committee or equivalent environmental administration.
  • Form: Written notification with information, drawings and technical descriptions of devices, premises and facilities.
  • Fee: The municipality charges a notification fee that varies between municipalities.
  • Supervision: The municipality exercises supervision and charges a supervision fee.
