Taxi Driver Card
The taxi driver card (chauffeurskaart taxi) is a mandatory identification card for anyone who provides professional passenger transport by taxi. The card proves that the driver has passed the required taxi examination and is authorized to work as a taxi driver in the Netherlands. Without a valid driver card, it is illegal to transport passengers for hire.
The card is issued by KIWA Register on behalf of the government, based on the Passenger Transport Act 2000 (Wet personenvervoer 2000). To obtain the card, you must pass the taxi driver examination, hold a valid Dutch driving license, and meet medical fitness requirements. The card is valid for five years and must be visibly displayed in the vehicle.
Requirements
- Driver diploma: You must possess a valid taxi driver diploma
- Age: Minimum age according to legal requirements
- Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG): A VOG may be required for the application
Procedure
- Obtain diploma: First complete the training and obtain the taxi driver diploma
- Application: Submit an application for the driver card according to Article 81 Passenger Transport Decree 2000
- Issuance: After approval, you will receive the taxi driver card
Restrictions
- Validity: The driver card has a limited validity period and must be renewed
- Carry: The card must always be carried during work as a taxi driver
- Conditions: Compliance with legal requirements for taxi transport is mandatory
