Waste Collection Fee

Waste collection fee (reinigingsrecht) is a municipal levy that residents and businesses pay for cleaning public spaces and collecting household waste. The levy consists of two components: the waste collection tax (afvalstoffenheffing, for collecting and processing household waste) and the cleaning fees (reinigingsrechten, for keeping streets and public spaces clean).

The levy is automatically imposed by the municipality on all residents and users of properties within the municipality. The amount of the levy is determined annually by the municipal council in the tax regulation and differs per municipality.

Requirements

  • Taxpayer: Owner or user of a property within the municipality
  • Automatic assessment: The municipality automatically imposes the levy
  • Annual levy: Is determined and imposed each year

Procedure

  • Assessment: You receive an annual assessment from the municipality for waste collection fee and waste collection tax
  • Calculation: The amount is determined by the number of people in the household and/or the size of the property
  • Payment: Payment according to the terms stated on the assessment
  • Objection: Objection possible within 6 weeks of the date of the assessment
