Groundwater Extraction Registration
If you extract or infiltrate groundwater, you are in most cases required to register these activities. The registration obligation applies to businesses and individuals who extract groundwater from the soil or introduce water into the soil (infiltration). This registration is intended to gain insight into groundwater use and to protect groundwater reserves.
An important condition for registration is that you must be able to indicate how much water you extract or infiltrate. In case of infiltration, you are also required to measure, register and report the quality of the water to the competent authority (national government, province or water board).
Requirements
- Measuring equipment: You must have measuring equipment with which you can measure the amount of extracted or infiltrated groundwater.
- Quality measurements: In case of infiltration, you must measure and register the quality of the water.
- Registration obligation: You must accurately record data on extraction or infiltration.
- Reporting obligation: The registered data must be periodically reported to the competent authority (national government, province or water board).
Procedure
- Installation of measuring equipment: Install approved measuring equipment to measure extraction or infiltration.
- Registration: Register the quantities of extracted or infiltrated groundwater in accordance with the requirements.
- Quality measurements: In case of infiltration, regularly perform quality measurements of the infiltrated water.
- Reporting: Report the registered data periodically to the competent authority according to the established deadlines and formats.
- Archiving: Keep the registration data for the legally required period.
