Exemption for Fertilizer Use Experiments
An exemption for fertilizer use experiments (ontheffing experiment gebruik meststoffen) is a temporary exemption from the prohibition on using organic fertilizers during the period from September 1 through January 31. This exemption is issued by the province and is intended for conducting scientific or practice-oriented experiments.
Normally, the use of organic fertilizers on arable and grassland is prohibited during this period to prevent nutrient leaching. With an exemption, you may experiment with fertilizer use under controlled conditions from September 1 through September 15.
Requirements
- Purpose: Scientific or practice-oriented research on fertilizer use
- Period: Only possible from September 1 through September 15
- Location: Arable and grassland within the province
- Justification: Detailed description of the experiment and the fertilizers to be used
Procedure
- Application: Submit to the province with a detailed experiment plan
- Assessment: The province assesses whether the experiment is scientifically sound and does not pose unacceptable environmental risks
- Decision: The province grants or refuses the exemption
- Reporting: A report must be submitted after completion of the experiment
Restrictions
- Time window: Experiments are only permitted from September 1 through 15
- Prohibited period: From September 16 through January 31, the prohibition remains fully in effect
- Conditions: Additional conditions may be attached to the exemption to prevent environmental damage
