Fireworks Ignition Notification

A fireworks ignition notification (vuurwerk ontbrandingsmelding) is a mandatory filing each time a business intends to ignite fireworks. This applies to professional pyrotechnic companies providing fireworks displays at events, celebrations, or other occasions. The notification must be made to the province or municipality, depending on the type and quantity of fireworks.

This requirement is set out in the Fireworks Decree (Vuurwerkbesluit). The notification must include details about the location, date, time, safety distances, and the qualifications of the person responsible for ignition. For larger displays or professional fireworks (category F4), an ignition permit (ontbrandingstoestemming) is required instead of a notification.

Requirements

  • Target group: Companies igniting fireworks (event organizers, professional fireworks companies)
  • Quantity: Consumer fireworks up to 200 kg, theatrical fireworks up to 20 kg
  • Timing: Notification must be made prior to ignition

Procedure

  • Notification: Submission to province or municipality, depending on location and type of fireworks
  • Competent authority: Province or municipality
  • Deadline: In time before the planned ignition

Restrictions

  • Larger quantities: For more than 200 kg consumer fireworks or 20 kg theatrical fireworks, an ignition permit is required
  • Professional fireworks: Always requires an ignition permit, not just a notification
