Environmental Permit for Construction Activity
An environmental permit is required in many cases for carrying out a construction activity (bouwactiviteit), such as building, renovating or demolishing. A construction activity includes all work relating to the construction, modification or removal of structures.
The permit is issued by the municipality, province or national government, depending on the nature and scope of the activity. You apply for the permit via the Omgevingsloket (Environmental Portal). The competent authority assesses whether the construction activity meets the requirements of the Building Works Living Environment Decree (Besluit bouwwerken leefomgeving, Bbl) and the environmental plan.
Requirements
- Application form: Digital application form via the Omgevingsloket
- Drawings: Construction drawings with floor plans, cross-sections and facades
- Description: Description of the nature and scope of the construction activity
- Technical data: Structural calculations and material specifications if necessary
- Demolition plan: For demolition work, a plan for safe disposal and recycling
Procedure
- Submit application: Via the Omgevingsloket to the competent authority
- Processing time: Decision within 8 weeks, extension possible for complex applications
- Assessment: Review of technical requirements, safety and environmental plan
- Publication: The application is published for comments
- Decision: Granting or refusal with any conditions
