Craft Trade Card (Craft Register Entry)
The Handwerkskarte is the official identity document issued by your local Handwerkskammer (Chamber of Crafts) after you are entered in the Handwerksrolle. It serves as proof that you are a registered craft business and is often required when dealing with clients, suppliers, or public tenders.
You receive the Handwerkskarte automatically once your Handwerksrolle entry is confirmed. The card contains your business details and registered craft trade. It must be renewed if your business details change, and returned if you cease operations.
Requirements
- Master exam: Passing the master craftsman's examination in the relevant craft (or exception permit under § 8 HwO)
- Equivalent qualification: EU/EEA professional qualification, engineering/technician degree with 6 years' experience, or experienced journeyman provision (§ 7b HwO)
- EU citizens: Recognition of qualifications under the EU Professional Qualifications Directive
Procedure
- Application to the relevant Chamber of Crafts
- Processing time: approx. 2-4 weeks
- Registration fee: approx. €100-200
- Mandatory membership in the Chamber of Crafts with annual dues
