Food Contact Material Operator's Notification of Premises and Operations

Municipal

If you manufacture, import or distribute food contact materials, you must notify the municipal food control authority about your premises and operations at least four weeks before starting. Food contact materials include packaging, single-use tableware and gloves, kitchen utensils, food industry machinery, and raw materials used in their manufacture. Printing inks, lacquers and adhesives also fall under this requirement.The notification is submitted through the Ilppa e-service or on a form from the municipal authority. If you operate in multiple locations, a separate notification must be sent to each municipality. You must also notify of significant changes to your operations or if you suspend or discontinue them.

Permits and Notifications Concerning the Use and Storage of Chemicals and Explosives

You must submit a notification about the use and storage of dangerous chemicals and explosives either to the rescue authority or to the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes). The notification obligation applies to chemicals classified due to health hazard, environmental hazard, or physical hazard.The handling and storage of dangerous chemicals is divided into minor and large-scale operations. The scale of operations is determined based on the hazardousness and quantity of the chemicals. A notification about minor use and storage is submitted to the rescue authority, while a notification about large-scale storage and use is submitted to Tukes before commencing operations.
