Grants for Private Roads
A private road grant is financial support provided by the municipality for the construction, repair and maintenance of private roads. Grants may be applied for jointly by road associations (tiekunta) or road shareholders (tieosakkas).
The municipality may grant subsidies for the maintenance of private roads or assume full or partial responsibility for road maintenance. Grants may also be available from state funds. If the state or municipality provides subsidies to a road association or road shareholders jointly for road maintenance, the road must be accessible to all.
Requirements
- Road association establishment: A road association (tiekunta) must be established for the road.
- Registration: Information concerning the road association and the road must be up to date in the National Land Survey's private road register and in the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency's road and street network information system Digiroad.
- Public access: If the state or municipality provides subsidies to a road association or road shareholders jointly, the road must be accessible to all.
Application procedure
- Applicant: Road association (tiekunta) or road shareholders (tieosakkas) jointly.
- Authority: Application is submitted to the municipality.
- Use of grant: Grants may be awarded for the construction, repair and maintenance of private roads.
- Other sources: Grants may also be available from state funds.
